The aim for the animation was to inspire the viewers and give them a glimpse of what the results of this research could mean for the mining industry. Kind of an animated management summary of the research project.
With the focus on inspiring the viewer we decided to go for a cinematic look, resulting in an animation with the feel of a nature documentary film.
In a discovery session with the researchers of TU Delft we boiled the results of this PhD research down to its essentials, resulting in a 1,5 minute voice-over script.
With this script the first rough sketches for the storyboard were developed, which then were fleshed out into the final visual look of the animation. Using simple shapes, abstracted scenes, a muted colorpalette, grainy textures and subtle gradients to create a clean realistic design.
Alongside the development of this animation, Studio Synopsis also designed the visuals and lay-out for the dissertation on this research, in order to create a coherent way of communicating this project.
If you're interested in how sensors can be applied to make the mining industry more efficient, go ahead and download that thesis. Otherwise, just stay here for a quick look of our favourite visuals.
Do you have a complex project that could use some visual clarity? And do you like what you see? Get in touch to see whether a cinematic animation like this is the way to make your work stand out.
